"If We Don't, Remember Me" - Best Fan-made Gem?

I'll write it flat-out instead of just linking to it: http://iwdrm.tumblr.com - that's a site I think you should check out. I'll show 3 examples of how impressive it is, and I mirrored iwdrm's own setup to convince you.

“Do you mind if I have a quick one?”
The Fearless Vampire Killers (1967)

That's one of the first images you'll currently find on the second page of "If We Don't, Remember Me," a true fan-made work of art. It's an incredibly simple concept, magnificently executed: animated gifs of movies,  paired with a film quote that matches or evokes the moment. But the animation is sometimes so limited or so small - a pair of eyes, a phonograph - that you have to pay attention to notice. The effect is heightened by a time delay that's sometimes several seconds long.

Page after page of white backgrounds broken by images and three lines of text. In selection of movies and specific scenes, this neatly-designed tumblr blog should be an award-winner. The quote selection is excellent, and I also like that the movie's title is a rare non-underlined url to each film's imdb page. I didn't repeat that effect in this post, but I think it's classy.

I wish I could say that I found this while I was taking a break from stopping crime and injustice in my city. Or that I thought of it myself. Nope! A very cool girl in Norway, Camilla, gave me the heads' up, and I owe her thanks. I don't have to feel the shame of falling in love with a new internet meme so soon.

"Looks like me an Vincent caught you boys at breakfast. Sorry about that. Whatcha havin’?”
Pulp Fiction (1994)

No seriously, "thanks, this is great!" I can't find anything about the makers in order to thank them, too, but they have that site and a twitter account that seems to be used like an RSS feed. If I could give them more praise, I would. It's a pretty, distinct, fun url to check out.

As to the title, I have only this admittedly pretty-decent guess: it's a line in the film noir, "Kiss Me Deadly," a 1955 Mike Hammer detective film. You can read the line here, and I love that it's delivered by a very young Cloris Leachman:
"Get me to that bus stop and forget you ever saw me. If we don't make it to the bus stop..."
"We will."
"If we don't, remember me."
I'm incredibly impressed by this simple and effective idea. Damn, I'm almost jealous! I won't even take up more time talking about it - just check out the link and take a minute to think "wow." Then, afterwards, thank a woman in Norway. If you want to thank me, I guess... link to this post instead of straight to their site. No matter what, I'm pretty thankful to the genius(es?) that came up with iwdrm.

  1. I've seen a few of these around the internet before, they are wonderful.
That Full Metal Jacket one is one of my favourites!

Also any of them featuring Jack Nicholson in The Shining are awesome!

  2. The FMJ one was the first I saw, and I loved it. What I'm surprised by is how many great pictures there are from movies I've never seen. I like so many of them, I decided to just provide 3 good examples of iwdrm's pictures...
