QftWo 6/23-29: Imposters #57 - 22 Jump Street
Well, I think this thing is just too damn bland. I don't mind the last-name announcement of the leads so much - the original film was a big hit, and the interplay between Tatum and Hill was supposedly a highlight. But the empty background is just boring, and no information about the movie is actually conveyed to the audience. This one gets a big thumbs down.
I don't know how I missed commenting on this one, but I like it. It's a good teaser-style image, just the stars in their ridiculous sunglasses and equally ridiculous blingy guns, in front of a white wall on which the titular "22" seems to have been stenciled (diegetic logo?). A "From the makers of 21 Jump Street and The Lego Movie..." or a tag line would give you a better idea of what the movie's about, but sometimes the lack of information--and forcing the viewer to figure it out--makes a more lasting impression.
ReplyDeleteThen again, they might have skipped the tag lines because the movie's tag lines aren't terribly impressive. According to IMDB, you have: "They're not 21 anymore" and "These undercover cops are going to party like it's their job."
For one thing, yes, those taglines are terrible. For another, I would be more positive about this, but I don't know that 21 Jump Street the movie was so big as to merit such a bare bones ad.
DeleteI may have underestimated the original pic's success, but I don't know that it quite earned this treatment, that's all..
And, dear God, those taglines are sorta DOA
